2.4545 / UNS N14080 – FeNi80Mo

2.4545 is a soft magnetic nickel-iron alloy with about 80% nickel, 4.2 - 5.2% molybdenum, about saturation induction.

Typical applications are earth leakage circuit breakers, instrument transformers, integrated current transformers for inductive components, transformer laminations, transformer cores for modems with special transformer features, stamped rings for electronic earth leakage circuit breakers, protective films, protective boxes, stamped parts for analog clock mechanisms, are components for electromagnetic relays.

The magnetic properties of 2.4545 can be changed by appropriate heat treatment. In toroidal tape wound cores, the initial permeability μ4 can reach 160,000 to 380,000 at a frequency of 50 Hz and 0.065 mm strip thickness, and the maximum permeability can reach 320,000 to 480,000. Static coercive force is typically Hc ≤ 1 A / m. The hysteresis ring can be set curved, rectangular or straight.

Cold worked condition is best suited for machining operations. The material shows properties similar to those of stainless steels. Low cutting speeds, cooling cutting oils and carbide or high speed steel cutting tools are required; the second must be kept sharp. After processing is complete, any residual layers of oil, grease or dirt should be removed as completely as possible before annealing the parts. Sulfur-containing oils are completely unsuitable.

The best method for welding is usually spot welding, but other welding operations are also suitable in principle.

Corrosion resistance is good in a humid atmosphere, but not in aggressive environments.
