VAR® 64 BC / UNS R31537 / ASTM F1537 (Micromelt Biodur CCM Alloy) is a cobalt-based superalloy with high chromium and molybdenum. Its high corrosion resistance makes it particularly suitable for the production of implants in contact with living tissue. VAR® 64 BC / UNS R31537 / ASTM F1537 (Micromelt Biodur CCM Alloy) composition is specially optimized for closed die forging. The high mechanical strength that can be achieved during this process results in a steel with excellent fatigue strength properties while maintaining good toughness. Therefore, with VAR® 64 BC / UNS R31537 / ASTM F1537 (Micromelt Biodur CCM Alloy) it is possible to produce very thin parts with a high level of safety. It is not magnetic.

The main application areas are the production of permanent surgical implants and all kinds of implants placed in the human body. VAR® 64 BC / UNS R31537 / ASTM F1537 (Micromelt Biodur CCM Alloy) is particularly suitable for endoprosthesis and osteosynthesis where high mechanical stress is expected. It is also widely used in the watch making industry and other industries where hardness, toughness, ductility, and corrosion resistance are required.

VAR® 64 BC Cobalt Base ISO 5832-12, ASTM F 799, ASTM F1537 Alloy 1 R31537 Micromelt Biodur CCM Alloy CoCr28Mo Non-magnetic Cobalt-Chromium-Molybdenum Alloy for orthopedic implants meets the strictest requirements regarding biocompatibility and corrosion resistance. It is produced by VIM followed by ESR. The finished mill product is supplied in the annealed, hot worked, or warm worked condition. It is typically annealed at 1093° to 1121°C for 1 to 2 hours followed by water quenching.
