VAR® 418 / Alloy 418, also known as Greek Ascoloy, is a heat-resistant martensitic chrome-tungsten-nickel stainless steel. It is designed for use in high voltage components up to 649 ºC. Typical heat treatment at 980 ºC - 1010 ⁰C followed by air or oil quenching depending on material thickness and 2 hours annealing at 620 ºC minimum, superior creep to VAR® 418 / Alloy 418 / Greek Ascoloy compared to the general properties of 12% chromium stainless steels It gives strength and resistance to stress-corrosion cracking and annealing. It is used in compressor components, steam and gas turbine blades, steam turbine buckets, high temperature bolts.
